Pitimbu is a municipal region situated on the south coast of Paraiba State in Brazil with the towns of Pitimbu and Acau being situated just about 8km's apart along the coastline of this region.
According to surveys taken in 2006 the population of Pitimbu town is approximately 16,500 with 46% of the population living in the urban areas.
The municipal of Pitimbu covers an area of approximately 136 km² which roughly represents 0.24% of Paraiba State itself.
The district is situated inbetween the capital cities of Joao Pessoa to the north and Recife, Pernambuco to the south, being 55km's and 85km's away respectively.
Access to this district is either by the BR-101 federal highway using the PB-044 for local access, or if travelling from Joao Pessoa, the PB-008 is generally used providing a beautiful secenic drive along the way!
Pitimbu municipal district reaches out to Conde district to the north, Goiana-PE to the south, the Atlantic ocean to the east, and the municipal districts of Caaporã and Alhandra to the west.
The climate in this region is tropical providing maximum temperatues of 29 °C, mínimum of 25 °C, with an average annual rainfall of 1,634 mm.
In addition to 'Praia de Pitimbu' and 'Praia do Pontal' in the centre of Pitimbu town, being most well known by the locals, Pitimbu offers many more beaches, with Acau town on the furthermost point of Paraiba State being the other well known region being well located for access to the neighbouring State of Pernambuco (PE), access to Pitimbu town is now very simple due to the new road now in place between these two towns, and in addition, a car ferry now operates across the river from Acau to 'Carne de Vaca' in Goiana-PE.
Other well known beaches in the region are 'Praia Azul' and 'Ponta de Coqueiros', located on the new road between the towns of Pitimbu and Acau.
Above and beyond beaches within the immediate vacinity of Pitimbu town, you can go further north to Praia Bela beach in the municipal of Pitimbu, which is considered to be the best beach for surfing in the region.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that a Spanish Hotel group have purchased 344 hectares of land in the region recently, and they have plans to build a resort including three 5 star hotels, a golf course, a shopping centre, and a convention centre.
